In a 1960s home, the clients sought a modern update that would create more seamless living spaces. This main floor remodel achieved an open plan by removing select structural walls, allowing the kitchen, dining, and living areas to flow effortlessly together. Custom white oak cabinetry, glazed terracotta tile, rift white oak floors, and a plastered hood transform the kitchen into a serene, cohesive retreat. Select sections of paint-grade cabinetry introduce subtle contrast, helping to define spaces while visually tying the larger main floor together.
A new custom slat panel now defines space between the two fireplaces after the original wall was removed. The double-sided fireplace was finished with plaster on one side and paint on the other, creating two distinct yet connected environments. A new in-floor concrete hearth was introduced, and one fireplace was reimagined as a decorative nook, showcasing the original brick.
